Four things to do before you buy a vanity
- Measure the wall, not the old vanity, at the front and back, at three heights. The smallest number is your opening, less an inch for fillers.
- Photograph the plumbing under the old vanity with a tape in the shot. The drain position decides whether drawers will work and what the plumber will charge.
- Price the top before you fall for the cabinet. The cabinet is a third of the job.
- If it is going to float, find out what is behind the drywall. It needs blocking, and in a renovation that means opening the wall.
